ABSTRACT

This paper discusses Shakespeare's Henry V 4.1 in the context of English Reformation ideas concerning the extent to which subjects owe obedience to secular authority, and in the process suggests some ways in which the key text of the age— the English Bible—can usefully contribute to such readings.
