Abstract
Currently
there are three different written forms in teaching Southern Min
dialect, namely Chinese characters, Missionary Romanization and Chinese
Phonetic Symbols. Advantages and disadvantages of the three forms are
discussed by illustration. The form of Chinese characters is
considered as the most advantageous to associate the teaching of
Mandarin with that of the dialect. The other forms are suggested to be supplementary. However,
it is desirable to establish a standard phonetic
system and prepare suitable textbooks in the dialect for both native and non-native speakers.
